In the Gambia women are the majority when it comes to the field of journalism.
But in any case women always dominates institution. Journalism is not only about writing and reporting but it also have ethical values. In order for one to be a professional journalist one has to follow the rules and regulations of media ethics.
Abdourahman Jallow a journalist. In an interview he said in the gambia women always outnumber men but when it comes to sharing responsibilities men are always given a high chance to handle it. He said sometimes in the society we lived in women are consider to stay home and serve the family and some people think that women are not fit to handle certain position. He said the problem comes when the women are married therefore it’s always difficult for the woman to cope when their is no proper management and assistant.
Mr Jallow advice the up coming journalist to value and respect the ethics of journalism and they should not report anything which is not in public interest. They should write with good faith and avoid been biase. He said truth and accuracy are fundemental in journalism.
Elizabeth H, jarju, a female journalist express how she feel to be a female journalist. Though despite all been a female journalist in the field of journalism, their are always challenges.
She said the society always have eyes of judgement and believing that women are only meant for cooking and doing domestic chores.
She said the Gambia when it comes to journalism. If it’s hundred percent then seventy percent of the journalist are females in the journalism field and that makes her proud to be among those females.
She said females especially married women needs guidance and proper care they should not be discourage in their field of profession because they are doing what they love and they should be supported and motivated.
H jarju advice the young female journalist let them never give up as that is their work and they should do it with good faith and they should be responsible as in the field of journalism honesty is a key role by following the ethics of journalism.
